SEO: Patience & Persistence

As a hired consultant trying to improve a company’s search engine marketing I would suggest the following be implemented:

a.       The company’s website would need to be revamped with the latest and greatest content. Simple and easy to use. A lot of video, audio and photos.

b.      The new and improved website would need to be properly indexed in the search engines that are most commonly used.

c.       Doing the necessary research to find out what the most relevant and popular keywords are in the category that I’m working with. If it is coffee some of the most common terminology may be coffee club, coffee review, Starbucks, etc.

d.      After discovering the most common keyword I would use those keywords on the new site as much as possible.  The more I can input the keywords the better.
Content is king even when it comes to SEO. In order to integrate the entire mechanics new content will need to be published in the form of audio, video and text. All new materials would need to be pushed via social media with the same keywords that were used in the website. Video on YouTube, Twitter and Blogger should all be integrated in order to push the new content.
Furthermore, joining relevant conversations on social media and linking the website to those conversations is another form of integration that can contribute to SEO.
The biggest key here is patience and persistence. It doesn’t happen overnight. Therefore, many companies start to lag on content creation, integrated social media application, refining keywords and joining the conversation. It is imperative to work on all aspects of SEO daily.
The below blog is a really good read about patience and SEO:
To sum it up, always remember patience, persistence, creative content and keywords. All else will be well.

  1. Hi Loren – I think you hit the nail on the head when you said SEO doesn’t happen overnight. There are a lot of tactics that drive a full-blown SEO strategy, and I think SEM is a big part. To me, optimizing content and then promoting that content are equally important to rise up the ranks in search engines. Specifically with keyword optimization, companies that use specific keywords in every single piece of content are more likely to have higher search engine rankings that reach buyers exactly when they are searching for that information. But, it definitely takes time to ensure content is optimized effectively. What do you think is the most important part of SEO and SEM in order to make the first page on Google (or other search engines)?

  2. Hi Mary, thanks for the feedback. I think that the fresher and more relevant the content the more likely the company will wind up on the first page of Google. Furthermore, that company will stay on the first page. No question that keyword optimization and social media integration is critical to this process. Although, without the right content it is a loosing battle.

Demographic information is important to creating the right content. Looking at what competitors are doing and listening to your customers are all good tools in making the right content.

  3. Hi Loren, Great post and insight! I love your phrase, 'content is king.' So much so that I quoted it and your blog in my blog this week :). Mary ^ emphasizes the importance of optimizing and promoting the content. I agree with you that social media is the best way to push the content; whether it be by blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc. I think that SEO has changes since its inception, whereas instead of a few key words, a string of words or a phrase is used to win using search engine optimization? Would you agree? How do you think SEO has changes more recently?

  4. Thanks Andrew. I think the challenge is finding out the key words and phrases that are used for a certain category. Again, the more the company is involved with the industry the more that company will know what is a trending phrase or key word. Once the key word optimization is established it boils down to hard work, patience and content to win out when competing for the top spot on Google page 1.

  5. Loren,
Your post brings up some great points and I agree that content is key when establishing relevance through SEO. One area you touch upon is key word research and its importance as an action when trying to improve search engine relevance. In order to gain a better handle on keywords how might you use the art of listening though social media to shape your determination of what words might be key or relevant? How might the two way nature of social media be able to flush out those key words?

In addition once key word data has been gathered it now needs to be implemented into a digital campaign so that search engine sites can then find the data. What type of campaign or content could you execute through social media that would take advantage of key words and resonate with search engines?

Great outline and look forward to your comments.

  6. Loren,
You totally drive it home when you include various supportive efforts like video, audio, and additional text to optimize and maintain a website's SEO strengths and social media efforts. Everything needs to work together on the back end, as well as resonate with the audience to engage in sharing via social networks.

How would you encourage a conversation on social media to connect with your audience? I think it's valuable to understand the things that interest your customers or address a need. It would certainly help choose keywords for the most effective optimization efforts. It's also important to put yourself in their shoes, and ask yourself "What's in it for them?" As marketing professionals we are able to measure the behaviors of our customers, such as what they are purchasing. We are at an advantage, but how well do you really know your customer? Are you able to draft content following SEO best practices, that will answer their needs, create a new product because they requested it, or provided a promotion for loyalty programs? Are your customer's satisfied? All of these play a roll of SEM.

Thank you for your blog. It was great to get your perspective. I look forward to your comments.
